7 Must Try Ice Cream Shops in LA

For a health driven City, LA sure does have a lot of funky ice cream shops. With creameries offering selections like Mango Lassi, Lavender Vanilla and Milk & Cereal, this gourmet ice cream trend is definitely one you need to check out.

Here is a list of my favorite ice cream shops in LA & must try flavors:

Atticus Creamery & Pies (Westwood)

Atticus Creamery

The Westwood dessert shop has one of the most exciting flavor lists that will please any 90’s baby. I’m talking about Salted Chocolate Bacon Pretzel, Milk & Cereal, and Potato Chip Chocolate.  There’s something for those who aren’t into the frozen dairy confection, with a selection of gourmet tart style pies. See, now everyone can be happy.

Suggested Flavor: Milk & Cereal

Carmela (Beverly Grove)

This sophisticated ice cream shop offers an upgraded version of classic flavors. Immediately upon walking in, the aroma of freshly made waffle cones relaxes your senses.

Suggested Flavors: Mint with Cocoa Nibs, Lavender

Diddy Riese (Westwood)

Yes, there will be a line. If it’s over 80 degrees, a very long line. Go with a big group of friends and have a good chat while waiting for the delicious and super affordable ice cream cookie sandwiches.

Suggested Flavor: Ice Cream Sandwich with Coffee Ice Cream on a Chocolate Macadamia Cookie

Jeni’s (Los Feliz)

The Mid-West favorite finally made it’s way to the west coast. This is a shop that lives up to the hype. From bold flavors to classics- Jeni’s is a crown pleaser.

Suggested Flavors: Mango Lassi, Espresso

McConnell’s (Downtown)

The Santa Barbara artisan ice cream can be purchased in nearly any grocery store in LA. Even 711 carries it! However, there are times where tubbed ice cream won’t do, and you need it freshly scooped onto a waffle cone.

Suggested Flavor: Churros Con Leche

N’ice Cream (Venice)

Nice Cream

This Venice shop makes their gelato every day. They have the most superb flavors that aren’t overly sweet, which tends to be the case with the Italian dessert. Truly, some of the best in town.

Suggested Flavor: Biscotti Gelato & Sorbet Smoothie

Sweet Rose Creamery (Brentwood|Fairfax |Santa Monica) *Featured Image

Having one of the most diverse menus, at Sweet Rose you can get classic scoops, ice cream sandwiches, bon bons, shakes, pies…the list goes on!

Suggested: Mint Chocolate Chip, Seasonal Flavors

What are your favorite creameries in town?

  1. All of my extended family lives in LA so I’ll be sure to keep this list handy the next time I go visit them!

  2. I’ll have to bookmark this for my next LA trip. Thanks for the roundup.

  3. 🙂 It is far too late to read about “chocolate bacon pretzel ice cream” that sounds so incredibly and now I am hungry, and it is bedtime. Oh the trials.

    Great round up 😀

  4. Yum! I love Diddy and Jeni’s! Cool list. My hubby still remembers when Diddy sold the ice cream sandwiches for 1$ back in the early 2000s

  5. I love checking out different ice cream shops! I’ve got to try that Biscotti Gelato!

  6. it would be so hard not to want to order a little something from each of these! they all look so good

    1. It’s always a tough choice. Thank goodness ice cream shops let you sample as much as you want!
